The MIN Graduate Center supports doctoral researchers by travel grants for conferences and research stays. The experiences on these trips are diverse and very interesting. Here is a report by Swati Vishwasrao Jagtap who attended the 23rd 'European Society for Vector Ecology Conference- ESOVE 2024' in Montpellier, France:
Thanks to MINGZ funding, I had the privilege of attending the 23rd European Society of Vector Ecology Conference in Montpellier, France. This prestigious event brought together global expert researchers, and practitioners to discuss innovative strategies for addressing vector-borne diseases.
Idea Exchange and Research Presentation
The conference was an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and learn from leaders in the field. One standout session explored the complex interactions between the host, vector, pathogen, microbiota, and the environment, alongside novel avenues for vector control. These discussions expanded my understanding of cutting-edge approaches to tackling disease transmission. I also presented my research during the poster session, which provided valuable feedback and spurred engaging conversations with experts.
Networking and Collaboration
A key highlight was the opportunity to network. Meeting researchers from a range of disciplines led to meaningful discussions, potential collaborations, and fresh perspectives on tackling vector-borne disease challenges. The interdisciplinary focus of the event underscored the importance of integrating scientific, social, and environmental approaches to make a greater impact.
Cultural Experience and Venue Highlights
The conference wasn’t just about science it also included a memorable cultural trip to the Abbey of Valmagne. This stunning medieval abbey transformed into a winery and offered a window into the region’s rich history and culture. Touring the Gothic architecture, tranquil gardens, and historic wine cellars was fascinating, while the wine workshop provided a taste of the area’s renowned viticulture. The Corum venue, located in the heart of Montpellier, was an ideal setting for this global gathering. Its modern facilities supported the vibrant exchange of knowledge, while the charm and history of the city added another layer to the experience. Exploring Montpellier’s historic streets and cultural landmarks perfectly complemented the professional aspects of the event.
MINGZ funding played a vital role in making my participation possible, allowing me to fully engage in this enriching experience. The insights I gained, the connections I established, and the feedback I received will significantly influence my ongoing research and career development.
Attending the 23rd European Society of Vector Ecology Conference was an invaluable experience. It combined professional growth, networking, and cultural enrichment, leaving me inspired and better equipped to contribute to the field of vector ecology.
