After your Doctorate
Approximately 25.000 dissertations are completed in Germany each year. According to a survey by the Federal Statistical Office, most dissertations are sought in mathematics and the natural sciences, followed by engineering, linguistic and cultural studies. A doctorate qualifies not only for employment in academia, but is also highly attractive for other areas. In Germany, doctorate holders earn on average 1.000 €/month more than academics without a doctoral degree.
Although these and other survey results can guide the career planning process, the decision greatly depends on individual factors. Therefore, a personal consultation can be helpful.
The Human Resources Department offers workshops and events on career planning as well as individual consultation for graduates. Many graduate schools also organize career fairs or offer consultation services.
