Entrepreneurship & startups
Founding your own business may be an attractive career opportunity for many doctoral researchers of MIN faculty. However, most doctoral candidates are unfamiliar with how a successful business start-up works, who offers funding opportunities for start-ups or what a business plan looks like. Therefore, Universität Hamburg and other institutions offer numerous services for (potential) founders: They provide support in finding and validating ideas, give advice on financing or arrange contacts to experts and help search for resources. Furthermore, you can consult the Arbeitsstelle für Wissens- und Technologietransfer (website in German) or DESY for information on patent law and patent submission.
Various institutions within and beyond the university offer courses, workshops and lectures on how to launch and run a start-up, such as the graduate schools MINGS and PIER, the university's Career Center (website in German), PIASTA, and more. You can find more events on the beyourpilot platform. And in Geventis, search for "startup" in the course catalogue to find relevant courses and events.
