MINGZ Funded Conference Participation Abroad: Marvin in Bangkok

The MIN Graduate Center supports doctoral researchers by travel grants for conferences and research stays. The experiences on these trips are diverse and very interesting. Here is a report by Marvin Heuer who attended the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in Bangkok, Thailand:

As part of my PhD, I was offered the opportunity to present my research at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), the most prestigious conference in the field of Information Systems. This year, the conference was located in Bangkok, Thailand.

Attending conferences is an important way of developing a network, getting your research known and discovering new insights that contribute to your research. By attending the conference, for instance, a new collaboration was started, and possibly new grants can be acquired that finances the next research project. But also, the conference location was breathtaking, Bangkok is a vibrant city and offers an incredible experience that I can only wish others to meet.

To acquire funding for my trip to ICIS 2024, I applied at the MINGZ through the Geventis. The Geventis form looks old and doesn’t have nice user experience, but it works, and I could always rely on Dr. Zappe and her incredible team if I had any questions. They were very straightforward and supportive in my requests. The overall experience at ICIS 2024 was inspiring and rewarding. The conference was well-organized, featuring a diverse range of sessions that catered to different areas within Information Systems. The opportunity to explore Bangkok, experience Thai culture, and interact with international scholars in an engaging setting further enriched the experience.

I am grateful for the financial support provided by MINGZ, which made this participation possible. The funding covered essential expenses, enabling me to focus on academic and professional engagement without financial constraints. This support played a crucial role in ensuring a productive and successful conference experience. Attending ICIS 2024 in Bangkok was an invaluable opportunity that significantly contributed to my academic and professional growth. The knowledge gained, connections made, and feedback received will have a lasting impact on my future endeavors. I extend my sincere appreciation to MINGZ for their generous support, which made this participation possible.
